Q: What is Black Gryph0n? How did you come up with the name?
A: Black Gryphon is a pseudonym I came up with at age 15 after watching the Chronicles of Narnia. I loved the Gryphon characters in the movie, and had just purchased my first laptop (a black Dell Inspiron) with my performance money. So the name "Black Gryphon" kinda wrote itself. Years later, I made a Deviant Art Account and flippantly decided to use the Pseudonym I already had. However, the name "Black Gryphon" was already taken so I changed the O to a Zero, made a character to go with it and the rest is history. :-P
Q: Will you perform at my concert or event? Will you sing/act/do a voice/etc. for a project?
Q: Are you related to Michelle Creber?
A: Nope! Michelle and I are great friends and creative collaborators; we perform, tour, write songs and record together. We also share the same manager and the same voiceover agent but no, we're not related.
Q: How did you and Michelle Creber meet?
A: Michelle & I were first introduced when we were invited to create an online 80s Week collaboration for Everfree Network in early 2013. We decided to do a cover of Michael Jackson's "BEAT IT". I arranged the track and recorded my vocals from where I was stationed in Japan (at the time I was still serving as the lead singer for the US Navy's 7th Fleet Band). Michelle and her parents recorded her vocals, and had the mixing and mastering done in Vancouver. Then Monique (Michelle's mom) pieced together a VIDEO using clips from various performances Michelle and I had done separately. This all happened before we had ever met in person, thanks to the magic of the internet! We did finally meet when we performed together at Bronycon 2013 in Baltimore. I flew from where I was deployed in Australia, Michelle and her folks flew from Vancouver, we met in Baltimore in the morning, did a quick rehearsal in the afternoon and performed together that night. A month later, I was honorably discharged from the Navy, and I returned to North America. Since then, Michelle and I have continued to collaborate on all kinds of different projects: concerts, tours, original songs, covers, vlogs, a comedy series called KRISTOFF und SCHLOFF, and more.
Q: Can you give me advice on becoming a singer? (or voice actor or anything else in the entertainment industry)
A: I get asked this question a lot, and it's really hard to answer without knowing a lot of details like where you live, how old you are, how much experience or training you have, etc. What I really recommend is booking a Skype or phone consultation with someone like Monique Creber. Not only is she a manager (for me, her daughter Michelle, and more), she is a producer, singer, actor, teacher and performance coach who knows all the inside scoop on that stuff. To contact her, send an email to Monique Creber at [email protected].
Q: Can you come to my fan convention?
A: I love appearing at conventions and have participated in many of them in the US, Canada and Europe! The first step is an official invitation from the convention organizers. I usually appear as a duo with Michelle Creber so it's even better if the invitation is for both of us. :-) Either way, please send the request and details to my management: [email protected] If you're not part of the organizing committee but you want me to come to an event in your area, you might still be able to help make it happen! Conventions listen to their attendees, so it never hurts to politely let the organizers know that you'd like us to be part of it. :-)
Q: Will you do a concert in my town?
A: I would love to! Concert bookings go through my management ([email protected]). There are a lot of details that have to be worked out to make a concert happen, especially if it's somewhere other than where I live: travel expenses, venue bookings, promotion and so on, but if you are a presenter or you know one who might be interested, please get in touch.
Q: Can I order an autographed CD, or an autographed photo of you?
Q: How old are you?
A: I was born on February 22, 1990. I'd do the math for you, but I don't know when you are asking this question :D
Q: How do I request an interview with you?
A: You can send an email request to [email protected]. Please include details like:
1) your name and contact info
2) who and/or what you are doing the interview for
3) how long you expect the interview to last
4) topics or types of questions you'd like to ask
5) how and when you are proposing to do the interview
6) links to your social media and to other similar interviews you've done in the past
